Time Saving Hacks
If you’re anything like me, time is of the essence! It takes time to run a business, grow a family and to fit in some fun, exercise and bucket filling activities!
So without further ado, here are some tips that I use to save time in my business and personal life. Working smarter, not harder is the key!
Turn off phone notifications
It’s amazing how many non-essential notifications interrupt your work day. Turn off notifications from games, news, social media apps. I even have text message notifications on silent so that I can view them at an appropriate time.
Get comfortable with saying no
Say no to anything that is either unprofitable for your business or that you don’t love. Saying yes to the wrong things only puts a drain on your time and emotional resource!
Outsource as much as you can
- Oven cleaning
- Data entry
Use Zoom/online meetings where possible
It’s amazing how much more efficient your meetings can be when you meet online.
Create text replacement shortcuts in your phone for common responses
Load in shortcuts for welcome messages, answers to FAQs or regular phrases that you use.
Use Siri/Alexa for lists and reminders on the go
You can set up multiple lists. For example, a shopping list, a work to-do list and a household chores list.
Set the kids up with reminders in their devices to do jobs like putting their bags away after school
I can’t tell you what a game changer this has been for me! No more nagging. I let Alexa do the nagging for me. 🤣
Use apps that update between your computer and phone so that you can update documents easily
My favourite apps are: notes, Google docs, Trello, Canva
Use voice messages for people that you feel comfortable with instead of long form writing
This doesn’t feel appropriate for everyone, but is perfect for family, friends or familiar contacts.
Set up bookmarks on your computer and phone for your most used websites
I have all my regular pages saved on my desktop and on my phone too.
Use a social media scheduler such as Metricool
I do love to post organically, but if I’m strapped for time or for posting to multiple accounts, a scheduler is a no-brainer. Metricool has a great free plan.
Block out time for social media content creation
Setting aside time each week will help you to be focused and to post with a clearer plan.
Use The Social Approach to make social media content creation far quicker!
Best time saving hack ever! One member told me that she created and scheduled 9 posts in 10 minutes using The Social Approach.
Repurpose and reuse content
Reshare content that has been successful in the past. This is super handy for exceptionally busy weeks.
Listen to audiobooks while you exercise or drive
I like this hack because it’s a good way to fill your bucket two ways at once.
Make phone calls while driving (hands free only)
This is only if you gave a hands free option!
- Christmas shopping
- Research bigger purchases
Use the time waiting in the car for family members to engage on social media
It’s amazing how much you can do with a couple of stolen minutes. Check out my 5 minute engagement plan here.
Delegate household chores to family members
Re-evaluate some of the household chores. If your house is like mine, chances are the kids are sneaking under the radar when it comes to doing their part!
Automate paying your bills
I like to pay all of my bills in advance by automatic payment. That way when the bill comes in, it’s already taken care of. One less thing to think about, plus it’s easier to budget!
Plan clothes the night before
Get out your gym clothes and work clothes so that you don’t need to hunt through the “clean washing/not put away yet” basket!
Set a timer for tasks and stick to it
This will help to accelerate your process!
Have subscriptions for regular purchases
We have a toothbrush subscription and it saves me a weird amount of brain space.
Make exercise a part of your daily routine so that you don’t have to think about it
Making it a part of your daily routine means no more wasting time arguing with yourself as to whether it will happen or not!
Batch create reels
Plan your reels in advance (use the ideas inside The Social Approach membership) and set aside time to edit them.
Film parts of your day as you go so that you’ve got footage when you need it
It’s amazing how many ways you can use that incidental footage. This will save you needing to purpose shoot it later on.
Use your phone’s focus feature to avoid distractions
If distractions and /or interruptions are slowing you down then this little trick will be a lifesaver.
Create Canva templates that you can use over and over
Create up to 5 Canva templates to use for your social media content creation. This is particularly handy if you share carousels or checklists.
Write a to-do list at the beginning of the day and start off with the most important tasks first
Prioritise what’s important. Start each day by writing a fresh list.
If you find that you’re spending 15 – 30 minutes on your social media posts (not an uncommon scenario), you can slash that down to 1-5 mins by using The Social Approach caption templates. Add that up over a few days and it’s a significant time saver!
